Northside Ghost Walk

Come and join us on the locals favourite walking tour dublin – The Northside Ghost Walk.

Tour Overview

Dublin is one of the most haunted cities in the world with over a thousand years of history! On the Northside Ghost walk, Hidden Dublin Walks brings you to one of the oldest areas of Dublin that was once known as Oxmantown. This area was home to a Viking enclave that is now full of eerie history! We will walk to the site of Saint Mary's Abbey which in the medieval times, was one of the strongest monastic settlements in Ireland. Today, it is just a small ruin at the end of an alleyway, passed unknowingly by thousands each day.

Hear the story of Lord Norbury, known as the sadistic 'Hanging Judge' who oversaw the trial of Robert Emmet, an Irish Republican and Nationalist who led a rebellion against British rule in 1803. Lord Norbury was hated in life and continued his reign of terror in Dublin after his death. It is said Robert Emmet will still make an appearance by looking out the window at The Brazen Head, seeing if the people approaching are friend or foe.

On the Northside Ghost Walk, learn the story of Scalbrother, a notorious medieval thief whose riches might still be hidden in a maze of tunnels under Smithfield. Hear about Billy the Bowl, an 18th century murderer who was born without legs and terrorized the areas of Stoneybatter and Grangegorman.

If you're brave enough, join us as we walk down Hendrick Street, where two of the most haunted houses in Dublin once stood. Number 7 and 8 Hendrick street were demolished in the 1960's but did the six ghosts that resided in the homes ever leave...?

Also what about the haunted hospital in Dublin? It has been said ghostly nurses have been seen on the streets surrounding the hospital. Could these ghosts be the cause of office chairs spinning on their own and electronic toys turning on and off by themselves?

Stay close as the Northside Ghost Walk enters Croppie's Acre. This long piece of land was a football field in the 20th century...but before that? It was a mass grave for hundreds of rebels that were executed in the 1798 rebellion. It is common for visitors to feel agitated after visiting Croppie's Acre since many of the spirits try to communicate from the other side!

Hear about the mummies of Saint Michan's Church which is one of the more frightening attractions in Ireland. These mummies were a significant inspiration for Bran Stroker, the author of Dracula and a native of Clontarf.

On the Northside Ghost Walk, we will also visit the site of the Virgin Mary apparition in the 21st century. Many have claimed to see the her image on the wall - will you?

And please be careful of who you step on as we walk through the broken down graveyard - the gravestones might have moved, but the bodies haven't...

Whether you visiting Dublin or you are a native of this historical city, join us on the Northside Ghost Walk and discover the Hidden Dublin you never would have believe existed...
